 He sang their wedding song,

The one that carried her home

18 years ago on August 9, 2008.

“I am so in love with you,”

It was a flower put into a vase.

And for the first time,

They kissed on the lips.

The vase looked fixed again.

Even though it was a peck on the lips,

Maybe someday, that love will find me.

The night slowly comes to an end,

When we start to grab our belongings 

And head to our gray Toyota.

The windows are dark;

The stars suddenly look brighter,

As we drive home in silence.

Dad breaks the silence,

“She forced me to sing it”

And the truth comes back to me:

I was the one with the tape,

Water was still leaking from the vase

And I didn’t fix it.

My head takes me back to the moment,

And it shows her friends cheering her on.

To kiss my dad after the song

But they weren’t cheering,

They were pressuring her.

The stars seemed to dim;

The wedding song played on the radio

But they just listened in silence.

And the magic I thought they had,

Was held by a piece of tape.
