The aurora unfurls in a warm embrace.
A sliver of a moment I never want to leave.
The horizon line looks toward a familiar face;
I follow its gaze, soon wishing to never look away.
Outside this moment, fleeting yet enduring
I wonder, Where would I go?
If time does not permit this moment to last,
I’d lose the one corner I’d ever held on to.
In a world so wide and vast I fear,
Could I find my way back to you?
It has dawned on me, how your presence has felt.
How you look to the wind as the rest of you seems to lift.
Suddenly it’s all I’ve ever known.
Suddenly it’s the only thing I can call home.
I belong in your eyes,
For each of them delineates the borders of a world;
A world I travel to only through your every glance.
Against their pulling depths I’ve never stood a chance.
I belong in your arms,
Open wings to a closed-off world.
Warm parts of an ocean enveloping what wishes to stay;
They seep through walls, they find their way.
I belong in your soul,
Its river intertwined with the ocean that led me here.
I swim to the bottom knowing I may not survive.
I swim to the bottom as it makes me feel alive.
A sharp tug at my chest as the world pulls me away.
Oh, how painfully raw the brightness of the day.
Yet the sun may blind and land may steal,
But the heart never forgets what’s real.
Each page of the coming chapters of our lives unfold before us,
Waiting to be written.
So, my beloved storyteller,
Though it hurts to leave, I look forward to something better.
This is my Anything But Farewell.
