Shades of Violet

Most people have no definitive color;

They decide what fits their mold

But mine was chosen by my mother,

Violet, dark purple, royal and bold.

But am I just a purple shade?

Am I defined by my first name?

Am I just a color, for those to paint?

Or will I leave my own kind of stain?

Maybe I’ll be yellow;

Sunny and happy!

With a bright colored smile,

And warmth lasting miles,

I’ll glow and shine, and then I’ll leave

An optimistic hue of the colors of me.

Or maybe I’ll be blue,

Somber and sad

With a long lost hope,

And struggling to cope,

I’ll fade and drown, and then I’ll leave

A melancholic hue of the colors of me.

Or maybe I’ll be red,

Anger and passion

With a rage and fuel,

And when determination rules,

I’ll burn and break, and then I’ll leave

An enraged hue of the colors of me.

But what if I’m something in between?

What if the Violet sometimes can be

A cheerful sunflower?

Happy as day!

When the world tries to break me,

I’ll find my way!

Or what if I’m a blue iris?

Gloomy as rain.

Whatever happens to me,

I’m still in pain.

Or maybe I’m a red tulip,

Furious as thunder!

With struggles and strife,

I’m fueled by rage!

With whatever day,

I will always be Violet

And no matter my mood,

That will never change.
