Color Me by Nadia Reyna

The colors of me are red, white, and green

Yet sometimes I don’t feel very close to thee

Maybe my colors are red, white, and blue?

All the more I feel further from you

Mexican-American, I hold that with pride

My parents worked hard to give me this life

Just sometimes, I feel like I don’t fit in

Not enough of either to win

Born in America, making me American

But I was born a Mexican

Now, who’s to say I can’t be both

My colors can show my growth

Color me green

Color me blue

You’re the colors that show my true hue
