2024

I have many dreams Some I still keep and some I’ve achieved And most of my dreams are way bigger than me My parents too had a dream When they came to the States They called it their home 8,580 miles away The weight they held in their hearts, leaving behind what they know Was as heavy as the accents in the English words they spoke And my parents had a dream for me too that I know To do good in school and have a dream of my own I have many dreams Because I come from two homes both separated by water and land One with four walls and the ground where I stand And one which I still have to build with my hands It will be the result of my work and the steps that I took The lessons I learned and the hands that I shook And that is my dream, the dream of my own And everyday I watch as it grows I have many dreams I have dreams of being rich and dreams of being pretty I have dreams that when I’m older I can explore a bigger city But there’s more to where that came from, more than I can say out loud For my biggest dream of all is to make my parents proud And I know I achieve that dream Every time I see the gleam in their eyes The gleam of pride that I’m their daughter And then I know I’m doing something right For my mother and father They say I was their dream like no other And they are mine too
