Both For Me
a Poem by
Navya Saini
I am of two cultures, both for me,
one of California, one of Delhi.
Two hemispheres, East and West,
neither is worse, nor the best.
In neither do I feel out of place,
though one’s like a sprint, the other not a race.
Delhi is in India,
a big country in Asia.
It may be hectic, but it has organization,
unique to the world’s most populous nation.
Land of spices, land of silk,
we cherish cows, we love their milk.
In California, it may seem peaceful and tranquil,
with the namesake golden poppy and the state bird the quail.
A culture built on cultures from far away,
with surprises and stories for another day.
We have a world built on robotics and tech,
with many big companies on deck.
Two beautiful cultures, different and unique,
with flora, fauna, rivers, and high peaks.
One is under stars and stripes,
with people of different cultures and types.
The other is under the Tiranga, the Indian tricolor,
both worlds mine, with tales of bravery and valor.
